Ella Langley Salem Setlist & Recap: The Dandelion Tour at Salem Civic Center

Southwest Virginia got its night. Ella Langley rolled the Dandelion Tour into the Salem Civic Center on Thursday, June 25, with Dylan Marlowe and Laci Kaye Booth opening, and from the first chord the Roanoke Valley crowd was all in. The Salem Civic Center is a tighter, louder room than the big arenas she's been filling out west, and a place like that sends every bit of noise straight back at the stage. Ella spent the night riding it.

The moments worth talking about

She still opens cold on the title track, and it still works. No warm-up, no slow build -- just "Dandelion" and a room full of people who already know every word. From there she stacks eleven of the sixteen tracks off the record into the night, which is the clearest sign of how much she trusts these songs in front of a live crowd.

The covers are where Ella tips her hat. Gretchen Wilson's "Here for the Party" lands early and gets the floor moving, the Toby Keith turn on "Wish I Didn't Know Now" pulls in the folks who've been at this a while, and her read of Kitty Wells' "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" still carries weight -- a woman who clearly knows whose boots came before hers.

Then the back half does what it always does. "Choosin' Texas" is the one that parked her atop the Hot 100 for weeks, but it's "weren't for the wind" that draws the loudest singalong -- the kind where the band could go silent and the room would finish it. "Be Her" lands late and the floor answers. And Dylan Marlowe coming back out for "you look like you love me" remains one of the easiest highlights of the night.
