Ella Just Got Pulled Into a 2004 Classic — and It Fits Like It Was Always Hers

While the charts keep rewriting themselves around her, Ella picked up a different kind of credit this week: a featured spot on one of the rowdiest songs country radio has ever produced. Gretchen Wilson released a brand-new duet version of her signature anthem "Here for the Party" with Ella on June 26, and it's the lead single from a re-recorded album Wilson has been quietly building.

How This One Came Together

The plan, per WKML, is for Wilson to revisit her landmark 2004 debut Here for the Party and remake every track as a duet, a different guest on each one. Ella got the very first slot. "When I started thinking about who to ask to sing on this track, Ella was my first and only choice," Wilson said. "I've been following her almost from day one, and her story, her music, and her sass remind me so much of myself when my own career took off."

Ella, for her part, has been singing this song her whole life. "Gretchen is a hero of mine, and I have played 'Here for the Party' in every show," she said. "Performing the song live with her has been wild to experience, and it's an honor to be a part of this album." The two first shared a stage on it last November at Ella's sold-out Ryman Auditorium show — clearly the moment that planted the seed.

A Song With Real History

The original was no small thing. Wilson wrote it with John Rich and Big Kenny, released it as a single on July 1, 2004, and watched it become her second No. 1 after "Redneck Woman." She's played it at essentially every show since. The new recording is out on her own Redneck Records in a fresh partnership with Thirty Tigers, and per Whiskey Riff, more singles roll out in the coming months ahead of the full duets album in early 2027.

Where You've Already Heard It

If the pairing sounds familiar, it should — Gretchen and Ella opened the three-hour CMA Fest broadcast with it at Nissan Stadium, the special that aired June 25 on ABC and streams on Hulu. The studio cut bottles that same energy. The duets album will eventually feature names like Travis Tritt, Ashley McBryde, Miranda Lambert, and Cody Johnson, but Ella is the one who got it started.
