Nashville's own trade magazine just weighed in on Ella's year, and it landed about how we hoped. As MusicRow rolls out the nominees for its 38th annual awards this week, Ella Langley shows up in three of the biggest categories on the ballot: Song of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.
What makes the MusicRow nod hit a little different from the ACMs or the CMAs is who does the voting. These winners are chosen by MusicRow Magazine subscribers — the songwriters, publishers, and industry folks who actually work in the rooms where Nashville songs get made. When that crowd puts your name in the Entertainer of the Year conversation, it is the town saying it out loud.
The Song of the Year nomination is for "Choosin' Texas," and it is worth reading the writers' names on that one: Ella Langley, Joybeth Taylor, Luke Dick, and Miranda Lambert. MusicRow is careful to point out that this category honors the craft of the songwriting, not just the chart run — though the chart run has been ridiculous too. "Choosin' Texas" spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, the longest run ever for a woman with a country hit, and it stacked up a record six separate trips back to the top. The award is about the writing, but the whole country knows the song.
A couple of housekeeping notes for anyone who wants to follow along. Voting is already open and closes Thursday, Aug. 14 at 5 p.m., and only MusicRow subscribers get a ballot. The winners get announced across all of MusicRow's platforms on Wednesday, Sept. 2, so mark the calendar.
This lands in the middle of a stretch that already looks like a highlight reel — the 15 straight weeks "Choosin' Texas" spent atop the Hot 100 and the top-five sweep of the Country Hot 100 are both from the last two weeks alone. Nominations from her own industry, in the categories that matter most, are the kind of thing you frame.
She is still very much on the road while all this plays out. If you want to see the Entertainer of the Year nominee do the actual entertaining, check the Dandelion Tour dates and grab a night near you.
