Ella Langley and Miranda Lambert Team Up on 'Snakeskin Boots' — Out October 2

We had a feeling something was up when Miranda Lambert posted that cryptic teaser earlier this week, and now it's official: Ella is on Miranda Lambert's new record. Lambert confirmed that Ella features on "Snakeskin Boots," the opening track of her upcoming album Crisco, which arrives October 2 via MCA.

If you've been following along, you know this pairing runs deep. Lambert produced Ella's Dandelion album, the two traded verses on "Butterfly Season," and Miranda co-wrote and co-produced a little song called "Choosin' Texas" — the one that just broke the all-time Billboard Hot 100 record with a 23-week run at No. 1. So when Lambert went looking for a partner on the lead track of her first album in nearly two years, there was really only one name on her mind.

"We wrote 'Snakeskin Boots' with Ella in mind," Lambert told American Songwriter. "She and I are kindred spirits, and when we were working on her album, I realized how many retro influences we share."

That retro streak is the whole point here. Where "Choosin' Texas" leaned into heartbreak, "Snakeskin Boots" trades all that for a cinematic, retro-Western swagger — think late-'60s spaghetti-Western attitude with two women who know exactly how to make an exit. Lambert put it better than we could: "To me, this song is kind of Thelma and Louise if they didn't drive off the cliff. It's two badass women getting away with something, and she's the perfect partner for that."

Crisco marks Lambert's first studio album in almost two years, and she's stacked it — Chris Stapleton turns up on "A Song To Sing," and now Ella opens the whole thing. According to Billboard, "Snakeskin Boots" makes its world premiere at country radio when the album drops October 2, so we won't have long to wait.

For an artist who spent all summer rewriting the record books, adding a Miranda Lambert duet to the résumé feels less like a surprise and more like the natural next chapter. Miranda has been in Ella's corner from the mentorship days onward, and this is the kind of full-circle moment that makes being a fan fun.
