Choosin' Texas Just Rewrote the Record Book

We have watched "Choosin' Texas" do a lot of remarkable things this year, but this one belongs in a frame. As of this week's Billboard charts, the song has spent 28 weeks at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs -- making it the longest-running chart-topper by a solo woman in the history of that ranking, which dates back to 1958.

What She Just Passed

The mark to beat belonged to Gabby Barrett, whose "I Hope" sat at No. 1 for 27 weeks back in 2020-21 and held the record for the longest reign by a woman with no accompanying act. Langley has now nudged past it. That is not a small footnote -- "I Hope" was a generational hit, and standing on top of it says a lot about how deep "Choosin' Texas" has dug into country radio, streaming, and sales all at once.

Where It Ranks All-Time

To be clear about the company she is keeping: only three songs in the chart's entire history have logged more weeks at No. 1 than "Choosin' Texas" -- Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line's "Meant to Be" (50 weeks), Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" (45), and Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road" (34). Every one of those is a duet or a male-led smash. Among solo women, nobody has ever held on this long.

Why It Keeps Climbing

A run like this does not happen by accident, and it does not happen quietly. The song has stayed in the conversation all spring and summer -- helped along by everything from the Dandelion Tour selling out rooms coast to coast to other artists name-checking it on their own stages. It is the kind of slow-burn dominance that comes from a song people genuinely keep choosing, week after week, long after the novelty would normally fade.
