It's Official: Choosin' Texas Now Owns the Hot 100 Record Outright

Two weeks ago we told you the chart dated September 5 was the one to circle, because a 20th week at No. 1 would be something no non-holiday song had ever done. Well — she did it. On that Hot 100, "Choosin' Texas" holds at the top for a 20th week, which means Ella Langley now owns the longest No. 1 run in the chart's history for any song that isn't tied to a holiday.

She Passed the Two Songs She Was Tied With

When we wrote about the 19-week milestone, "Choosin' Texas" was level with Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" — two records that each felt untouchable in their moment. As MusicRow reported, week 20 puts her past both of them and alone at the top. The only song ahead of her at all is Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You," and that one banked its 22 weeks across multiple Decembers since 1994. What Langley has done, she's done in one unbroken run, in a single year.

Let that sink in. A country single that started climbing back in February is now the biggest non-holiday chart story of the streaming era — bigger than "Old Town Road," bigger than "A Bar Song." That's not a country-music record. That's the record.

Why It Kept Holding

The Hot 100 blends streaming, radio and sales, and the reason "Choosin' Texas" wouldn't let go is that it kept showing up across all three instead of leaning on any one of them. Songs that spike on a single format fade fast; this one held because it was strong everywhere at once. It's the same engine that's been pulling the rest of her catalog up the chart in its wake all summer.

The song was co-written by Langley with Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor, and produced by Langley, Lambert and Ben West — a room that clearly knew what it had.
