Ella Langley 'Choosin' Texas' Hits 21 Weeks at No. 1

Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" has spent a 21st week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, on the chart dated September 12, 2026, and the number now carries a weight it didn't a month ago. Per Billboard, the song is within one week of tying the longest run at No. 1 in the chart's 67-year history — a record that has belonged to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" (22 weeks) and to nothing else. A country song about a girl picking a state over a person is one Monday away from the top line of the record book.

What a 21st week at No. 1 actually means

We have been counting these weeks for months, and the goalposts keep moving because the song keeps refusing to fall. Back when it tied Whitney and Mariah at 14 weeks and then passed them at 15, the milestone was "longest-running No. 1 by a woman this century." That record fell weeks ago. So did the all-time non-holiday mark of 16 weeks, shared until this summer by "One Sweet Day," "Despacito" and "Last Night." "Choosin' Texas" passed all three and kept going.

That leaves exactly one number in front of it. Mariah Carey's Christmas standard has logged 22 weeks at No. 1, but it does it a few weeks at a time across a decade of Decembers. "Choosin' Texas" has done 21 of them in a single unbroken run. One more week and the two are tied. Two more and Langley owns the longest No. 1 streak the Hot 100 has ever recorded, holiday songs included — outright.

The streams still aren't sagging

The part that keeps surprising us is the shape of the run. Songs this deep into a chart life normally fade on every front at once — streaming cools, radio moves on, and the position slips a spot at a time. This one hasn't. It is also, at the same time, No. 1 on Billboard's Songs of the Summer chart for 2026, and it remains No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, where it has now led for the better part of a year.

Langley's own reaction, as she told Billboard, has mostly been disbelief — which tracks, because there isn't a playbook for a debut-era country artist sitting a week from Mariah's record. It's worth remembering "Choosin' Texas" was released October 17, 2025 as the lead single from Dandelion, written by Langley with Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert and JoyBeth Taylor and produced by Lambert and Ben West. Nobody built it to do this.

Why next Monday is not a formality

It would be easy to call week 22 done. It isn't. A tie or a pass depends entirely on next week's streaming and sales, and the top of the chart has been crowded with country all summer, any of which could post a big week and knock the streak. The honest read is that this is close, and that a record standing since Mariah first hit No. 1 with the Christmas song is genuinely within reach but not guaranteed.
