Ella Langley is not a Grammy nominee yet, because no one is: the nominations for the 2027 Grammy Awards don't come out until Monday, November 16. But for the first time, a Grammy Best New Artist nod is actually on the table for her, and that's the part worth understanding before the list drops. A quiet rule change over the summer put her back in the running for the category after she'd aged out of it, and after the year she just had, her name is going to come up a lot when the envelopes are being filled.

Here's what changed, when to watch, and how strong her case really is.

The rule change that put her back in the running

Best New Artist has a limit on how many times an act can be entered. The Recording Academy raised that cap from three to four for the 2027 awards. Country Town, following reporting on the change, noted that Langley had already used up her three allowed Best New Artist entries without a win, so under the old rule she would have been shut out this year. Raising the cap to four is what clears her to compete again.

She's not the only one it helps. Billboard flagged a short list of artists who got a fresh shot from the same tweak, including Megan Moroney, Ken Carson and Ravyn Lenae. Grammys CEO Harvey Mason Jr. framed the broader goal plainly: the changes "will allow for a little bit more flexibility."

The eligibility window for this cycle ran from August 31, 2025 through August 28, 2026, which is exactly the stretch where Langley did her biggest work.

When the 2027 Grammy nominations come out

The nominations announcement is Monday, November 16, 2026, starting at 4:45 a.m. PT / 7:45 a.m. ET, streamed on the Recording Academy's official channels. The ceremony itself is the 69th Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 7, 2027, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. It's the first Grammy telecast on ABC after decades on CBS, with a simulcast on Disney+ and Hulu.

That nominations date matters for another reason. It lands two days before the 2026 CMA Awards on November 18, where Langley is already up for Entertainer of the Year and leads the field with nine nominations. For one week in the middle of November, her name is in both conversations at once.

Why Ella Langley has a real Best New Artist case

The case starts with the charts. "Choosin' Texas" became her first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 and made her the first female artist to top the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay at the same time. Her follow-up, "Be Her", peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100. Then the album landed: Dandelion, her second record, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 169,000 equivalent units for the week ending April 24, 2026, her first chart-topping album. We've tracked the full run on our Ella Langley Billboard records page, and it kept growing all year.

Then there's the hardware. She won Musical Event of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards for "You Look Like You Love Me" with Riley Green, and in 2025 that song swept Single, Song and Music Video of the Year. At the ACM Awards she took New Female Artist of the Year in 2025 and then came back in 2026 to win Artist-Songwriter of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and both Single and Song of the Year for "Choosin' Texas." Few artists walk into a Best New Artist vote with a trophy case like that already filled.

And she spent the eligibility window on the road. This fall's Dandelion Tour was her first arena headlining run, selling out rooms across the country before it wrapped. Voters saw an artist who topped the charts, won at her own genre's awards, and headlined arenas in the same twelve months.

The catch: country rarely wins this one

Best New Artist is an all-genre category, and country acts almost never take it home. The last one to win was Zac Brown Band back in 2010, which is where the "first country Best New Artist winner in more than 15 years" framing comes from. Kacey Musgraves was nominated in 2014 and didn't win. A room full of pop, hip-hop and R&B voters decides this award, and a big country year doesn't always translate.

There's also the simple math of a crowded ballot. The same rule change that helped Langley helped several other strong contenders, and the field of newer artists eligible this cycle is deep. Getting entered is not the same as getting nominated, and a nomination is not a win.

What to watch on November 16

First question: does her name actually appear in Best New Artist, or do voters reward her in the country categories instead? Langley could easily show up for Country Album, a country song or performance category, or a general-field slot and skip Best New Artist entirely. Second question: how does she stack against the other acts the rule change let back in. We'll be refreshing our Billboard records tracker and updating the CMA Entertainer of the Year breakdown as both awards shows play out.

For now, the honest answer to "is Ella Langley nominated for a Grammy" is: not yet, but after the summer rule change she has a real shot at Best New Artist, and we find out November 16. If you're still catching up on the music behind the case, start with our ranking of her best songs.
