GOING TO THE SHOW?

Get ready for the show

The 60th CMA Awards are two weeks out, and Ella Langley walks in with more nominations than anyone in the room — nine of them, spread across seven categories. So the question we keep getting from fellow fans is the practical one: will Ella Langley actually win a CMA this year, and if she does, how many? Leading the field in nominations is not the same as leading in wins. A couple of these races are genuine coin-flips against the biggest names in the format, and at least one looks like a long shot. Here's our honest, category-by-category read on where she's the favorite, where it's a toss-up, and where the trophy probably goes to somebody else.

How we're reading Ella Langley's CMA chances

The CMA Awards are a peer vote — decided by the industry's performing and professional members, not by fans or by raw streaming numbers. That matters, because it means a win rewards a blend of things: a huge commercial year, radio support, and the respect of the room. Ella has the commercial year locked up. "Choosin' Texas" owned the Hot 100 for a record-setting run this summer, and Dandelion debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. If you want the full ledger of chart lines she rewrote in 2026, we keep it current in our Ella Langley Billboard records guide.

The open question is whether voters treat 2026 as her coronation or as the opening act for one. With that in mind, here's each of her nine nominations.

Entertainer of the Year

The field: Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Ella Langley, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson.

This is the one everyone's watching, and it's the hardest to call. Entertainer of the Year is the CMA's top prize, and historically it leans toward established road warriors and repeat winners rather than first-time nominees — Lainey Wilson took it in 2023 and again in 2025, with Morgan Wallen winning in 2024. Ella is in the category for the first time. Her case is simple and loud: nobody in country had a bigger year. The counter-case is that voters often reward a body of work and years of arena touring, and both Wilson (a two-time winner who's also hosting the show) and Stapleton are heavyweights here. We'd call it a true toss-up that happens to be the night's defining race — a real shot, not a lock. We went deeper on just this category in can Ella Langley win CMA Entertainer of the Year?

Female Vocalist of the Year

The field: Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, Kacey Musgraves, Lainey Wilson.

If we had to bet one trophy on Ella, it's this one. Female Vocalist rewards the artist having the defining year, and in 2026 that's hard to argue against her. The company is serious — Lambert and Wilson have both won it before, and Moroney and Musgraves are no pushovers — but this is the category where her commercial dominance and her voice line up most cleanly with what the award is for. We've got her as the favorite.

Album of the Year

The field: Dandelion (Ella Langley), The Way I Am (Luke Combs), Middle of Nowhere (Kacey Musgraves), Parker McCollum, Ain't In It For My Health (Zach Top).

Dandelion did the commercial work — a No. 1 debut on the all-genre Billboard 200 is a strong résumé line. But Album of the Year is a crowded, respect-driven race, and Luke Combs and the fast-rising traditionalist Zach Top are exactly the kind of nominees who can pull votes in this category. We'd call it competitive and winnable, but closer to a toss-up than a favorite.

Single and Song of the Year

Single of the Year field: "Be Her" (Ella Langley), "Choosin' Texas" (Ella Langley), "I Knew It, I Knew You" (Taylor Swift), "Somewhere Over Laredo" (Lainey Wilson), "The Fall" (Cody Johnson).

Here's the quirk: Ella holds two of the five Single of the Year slots herself. That's a flex, but it's also a real risk — two Langley singles can split her own voters and let a single consensus pick sneak through. The upside is that "Choosin' Texas" is the record-setter of the bunch, and it's the horse we'd back. "Be Her" is the quieter companion nomination.

Song of the Year is the songwriter's award for those same two titles, and it's a tougher room. It's voted on the writing, and the field is full of career songwriters. "Choosin' Texas" — co-written with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor — is her best lyric case, but we'd rate Song a notch harder to win than Single.

Musical Event of the Year

The field: "I Can't Love You Anymore" with Morgan Wallen (Ella Langley), plus pairings from Miranda Lambert & Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves & Miranda Lambert, Carly Pearce & Riley Green, and the Hardy–Eric Church–Morgan Wallen–Tim McGraw collaboration.

Her duet with Morgan Wallen was a streaming monster, which is exactly the kind of collaboration this category loves. The field is stacked with veteran star-power, though, so we'd put it in the competitive-but-not-favored bucket.

Music Video of the Year

The field: "Choosin' Texas" (Ella Langley), "Dry Spell" (Kacey Musgraves), "Gary" (Stephen Wilson Jr.), "The Fall" (Cody Johnson), "White Horse" (Chris Stapleton).

Video categories are the least predictable at any awards show — they can reward the clip nobody expected. "Choosin' Texas" is a strong entry on the back of the song's ubiquity, but we'd treat this as her longest shot of the nine.

The bottom line: how many does she take home?

Add it up and here's where we land. Her clearest win is Female Vocalist of the Year, with Single of the Year (on the strength of "Choosin' Texas") close behind. Entertainer of the Year is a genuine toss-up that could go either way. Album and Musical Event are competitive, and Song and Music Video look like the longer shots. A great night is two or three trophies — and honestly, even one of the two big ones, Entertainer or Female Vocalist, turns this into her coronation rather than her warm-up.

One caveat worth keeping in mind: the CMA hasn't announced performers yet, so we still don't know whether Ella will take the stage on the broadcast. For the when, where, and how-to-stream details, see our full CMA Awards 2026 viewing guide. The show airs Wednesday, November 18. After that, the next time we'll see her live is the 2027 run she's already confirmed.
